The HON Company designs and manufactures office furniture including chairs, cubicals, tables, desks and education furniture. Headquartered in Muscatine, Iowa , it has manufacturing facilities located throughout the United States and China, and sells its products through a nationwide network of dealers and retailers.
In 1917, the company was incorporated under the name "Dillon Mercantile Company, Inc". Due to his sons John and Ray both being overseas in France during World War I, Dillon sold his company to his investment partners, but soon afterward both sons returned. They opened a new store called "J.S. Dillon and Sons Store" in 1919 and incorporated in 1921.
To compete in a changing industry, Mohasco gradually moved manufacturing south into the Carolinas and eventually Georgia. In 1963, the company turned some of its attention to furniture manufacturing through acquisitions. Carpet manufacturing at the Amsterdam site ended by 1968 and the last corporate offices left by 1987. [9]

That same year, Metal Office Furniture and Terrell formally merged, and the 1908 Terrell plant became Metal Office Furniture Company Plant No. 3.
