Allen Chapman (born August 18, 1974) is an American soccer referee employed by PRO. He primarily officiates in Major League Soccer. During an August 2016 USL match in New Jersey, Chapman became the first video assistant referee to be used during a professional match. [1] Chapman was named MLS Referee of the Year in 2017 and 2019. Mark William Geiger (born August 25, 1974) is an American sports administrator and former soccer referee.He is the senior director of match officials at the Professional Referee Organization (PRO), which oversees domestic referees in Major League Soccer (MLS).
In 1984, he became a national referee, working both national junior college and NAIA women's finals. In 1985, he officiated during the NCAA Division I women's tournament. In 1996, he officiated the women's quarterfinals and in 1999, he officiated the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Final.
In 1996, he became one of the first eighteen Major League Soccer referees. That season, he officiated during the 1996 Major League Soccer season playoffs. He also officiated the 2000 MLS All-Star Game, MLS Cup 2001 and the 2001 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final. He was the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 MLS Referee of the Year. [4]
