Seth Kane Kwei (1922–1992) was a Ga carpenter joiner established in Teshie, in the suburbs of Accra in Ghana. He was a long time considered to be the inventor in the early 1950s of design coffins or fantasy coffins , [ 1 ] called Abebuu adekai ("boxes with proverbs") by the Ga people , the dominant ethnic group of the region of Accra.
In 2005 he took over the management of the studio that was established by Seth Kane Kwei, [4] [5] motivated by the ambition to "rise the name of his grand-father and see the world". Within a short time, Adjetey Anang became one of Ghana's leading contemporary artists and an internationally known coffin maker.

Born in 1985, Eric Adjetey Anang is the grandson of Seth Kane Kwei. He has run the Kane Kwei Carpentry Workshop with his father Cedi since 2005, after graduating from Accra Academy . Since 2009, he has been the subject of several documentaries produced in the UK, France, Brazil, Japan, Norway and the USA.
The Ga believe that when someone dies, they move to another life. Therefore, special coffins are often crafted by highly skilled carpenters since this tradition spread in the 1950s. The pioneers of these artistic coffins were master craftsmen, such as Ataa Oko (1919–2012) from La, and Seth Kane Kwei (1925–1992) from Teshie.
