The MBTA ferry system is a public boat service providing water transportation in Boston Harbor. It is operated by Hornblower Cruises (branded as City Cruises) under contract to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). In 2024, the system had a ridership of 1,423,000, or about 4,300 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2024.

Outside the MBTA system, seasonal passenger ferry services operate to the Boston Harbor Islands, to the city of Salem north of Boston, and to the town of Provincetown on Cape Cod. Water taxis provide on-demand service from various points on the downtown waterfront and from Logan Airport , and in particular between the airport and downtown.
MBTA subway fares are $2.40 regardless of fare medium (CharlieCard, paper ticket, cash, contactless tap to ride), with two transfers on MBTA bus local routes allowed.
