Walter Seymour Allward CMG RCA (18 November 1874 [1] – 24 April 1955) was a Canadian monumental sculptor best known for the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.Featuring expressive classical figures within modern compositions, Allward's monuments evoke themes of memory, sacrifice, and redemption. [1]
The sculpture is 2.2 metres (7 ft 3 in) high. The artwork has its own lighting from solar panels. The public artwork was done by Perth artists Tony Jones and Ben Jones on a commission from the City of Perth and had an estimated cost of $167,000. [1] Jones' other pieces include the C. Y. O'Connor statue near Coogee and Sea Queen at Claisebrook Cove.
He is Head of Sculpture at the National Art School and is the artistic adviser to the popular annual exhibition Sculpture by the Sea.
