Pulaski County is a county in the U.S. Commonwealth of Kentucky.As of the 2020 census, the population was 65,034. [1] Its county seat is Somerset. [2] The county was founded in December 1798 from land given by Lincoln and Green Counties and named for Polish patriot Count Casimir Pulaski.
It was deemed significant as "an interesting example of the Queen Anne style" with note of its "varied asymmetrical appearance", its original porte-cochiere, and its "unusual frame porch on the main facade." Lees College Campus of Hazard Community and Technical College is a campus in Jackson, Kentucky of Hazard Community and Technical College, a public community college. It was founded in 1883 as Jackson Academy, an elementary and high school for Breathitt County. It is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the region. [1]
The Jumpers have won 21 district titles, 17 regional titles, 5 KHSAA state runner-ups: 1978, 1981, 1983, 1988, 2009 and one KHSAA state championship: 2019. The program has featured numerous high school and college all-Americans and members of the college football hall of fame. Somerset has one state title in baseball, earned in 1974.
Though it was originally named Cumberland College, it was chartered as Cumberland University on December 30, 1843. [11] The college in Princeton, Kentucky, remained open. The college ceased its manual labor operations and sold off its farm and farm equipment. By the end of 1842, the college was, for the first time in its history, debt-free. [12]
