The first site listed was the Aachen Cathedral in 1978. The most recent addition took place in 2024. [3] Three sites are natural and 51 are listed for their cultural significance.

In 2010, almost 517,000 people visited the museum, which is owned by the Senckenberg Nature Research Society. [9] Senckenberg's slogan is "world of biodiversity". [10]
