East Nashville was hit in a two-day tornado outbreak on April 15 and April 16, 1998. On April 16, a tornado touched down in East Nashville while cutting a swath through the greater Nashville area. At least 300 homes were damaged in East Nashville; many of which lost a good part of their roofs, and a few were destroyed.
In the earlier days, Pleasant View was formerly known as "Bradley's Stand," as well as "Turnbull Horse Stamp." The mail and telegraph lines ran from Clarksville to Nashville, and the Town of Pleasant View served as stagecoach stop and rest area between the two cities. The town was named Pleasant View by a group of citizens in 1870.

Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 70 (Lebanon Road) run east/west through Mt. Juliet, and State Route 171 (Mt Juliet Road) runs north-to-south connecting US-70 to I-40, before continuing toward Interstate 24 in the Antioch area. Interstate 40 has two exits in the city.
