She was the second Albatros for Phoenix Reisen as she was the replacement of the original SS Albatros. Albatros was also known for her Queen Elizabeth 2-esque funnel. In October 2020 Albatros was sold as a hotel vessel for the Pick Albatros Group in the Middle East, which operates some 15 hotels and resorts in Hurghada region. [3]
Ocean Majesty was launched as Juan March for the Madrid based ferry operator Trasmediterránea. The Albatross was built as Albatros, a schooner, at the state shipyard (Rijkswerf) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1920, to serve as a pilot boat (named Alk) in the North Sea. The ship spent two decades working the North Sea before being purchased by the German government in 1937.

The expedition was carried out on board the newly built training ship Albatross. The 70 meter long and 11 meter wide vessel was a combined motor and sailing vessel. The Boström line (Broströmskoncernen) had just built the student ship to train prospective ship's officers and this vessel with associated crew was lent to the expedition. [2]
Albatros was launched on 27 May 1934, after 3 years of construction, commissioned on 10 November 1934, entered the service with Regia Marina by the end of 1934. Being almost immediately reclassified as a second-line ship, her more modern 100 mm (4 in)/47 caliber cannons were replaced with World War I era 100 mm (4 in)/35 caliber ones.
