Henry County is a county in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, its population was 17,146. [1] Its county seat is Abbeville. [2] The county was named for Patrick Henry (1736–1799), famous orator and Governor of Virginia. [3] Henry County is part of the Dothan, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city is located in southeastern Alabama along U.S. Route 431, Alabama State Route 10, and Alabama State Route 27. U.S. 431 runs from north to south along the western side of the city as a four-lane divided highway, leading north 27 mi (43 km) to Eufaula and southwest 27 mi (43 km) to Dothan .
Dothan is in northwestern Houston County in southeastern Alabama. The city limits extend north into Henry County and northwest into Dale County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 89.7 square miles (232.4 km 2), of which 89.4 square miles (231.5 km 2) is land and 0.31 square miles (0.8 km 2), or 0.36%, is water.
