Kessel Food Markets was an American supermarket chain based in Michigan.It began in 1981 when Owosso, Michigan, native Al Kessel, a former executive vice president of Hamady Brothers supermarkets, purchased Kroger locations in Corunna and Saginaw.
The lot on which this house stands was owned by a series of land speculators from 1835 to 1895. In 1899, Russell Sackett bought the land and had a home constructed for his family. Sackett was a traveling salesman who settled in Saginaw. After Sackett left, the house was owned by a clothing merchant, the later a real estate agent and a lawyer.

Ippels Department Store moved into the building in 1905 and purchased the building in 1980. Bank of Saginaw Building (400 Court): Built in 1911, this Neo-Classical Revival-style bank was erected by the Bank of Saginaw, founded in 1888. The Bank of Saginaw folded during the Great Depression, and the Second National Bank moved into the building.
