I carry two sharkbite 1/2" caps in my bucket at all times along with the removal tool. They work great in kitchens and bathrooms until we can get the cabinets in and install new shutoffs. I've used them probably 30+ times and haven't had a problem with leaks.

Yes, unfortunately you have to solder the tub spout or the sharkbite just keeps on a turnin' and the spout wont fit snug to the wall. Ok, I'm revisiting this thread after about 3 years. Recipe for a leak. Take one o-ring, add water, add chlorine, let stands for a few years, remove, when o-ring leaves a black film on your finger then it is ready. Even the Red Korky Flapper that claim to be chemical resistant, are only warrantied for 5 years. Wonder why they even say chemical resistant.

But if you are repairing a long length of pipe with only 2 fittings needed, then it is without a doubt a good deal. My entire house is done in gator bites.

Cheaper, easier to work with, and POS copper thefts don't vandalize properties plumbed with cpvc as opposed to copper. Push fittings are convenient and less time consuming in some situations. However, most of the time it is easier, quicker, and more reliable to use cpvc fittings and solvent to plumb if you know what you are doing.
