I have a long standing bad taste from Sam Ash. Growing up on LI, Sam Ash was the big music store, practically the only music store except for those tiny guitar stores that didn't have keys anyway. I used to go to the Sam Ash in Huntington and… get ignored. I'd see the sales guys running around and they'd blow by me without saying a word.
What they said in March, when they announced closing of nearly half the stores: Quote. “For the last 100 years, Sam Ash Music has successfully adapted to meet the challenge of changing business conditions. As we look towards the next 100 years, the company must continue to adapt to ensure its continued success.
That was a few months ago. As of May 2024, the white FP-90X is sold out at this shop, and also sold out at multiple online shops. Sam Ash claimed to have 5 units in stock, and accepted their own 20% off coupon. I'm not so concerned about the FP-90X itself, or the possibility of having to return it to non-existent store.
On 9/1/2024 at 7:35 PM, Mighty Motif Max said: I visited the Twin Cities (Roseville, MN) Guitar Center today... Those GC images that both Max and I posted sure look a lot like the "old" Sam Ash store display that was in their NYC store (now closed). Maybe somebody at GC wised up and realized Sam Ash's closing left a void in the retail market ...

Sam Ash Music Stores to Close After 100 Years in Business. The chain, which started with a single shop in Brooklyn in 1924, said it would close all 42 of its locations by the end of July, citing competition from online retailers. Some of you should remember that I've been watching for the death of Guitar Center and posting updates on that here ...
We dropped into the Las Vegas Sam Ash this afternoon to check on the deals. 10-20% on accessories but not so good on more expensive items (amps, guitars, keyboards). It appeared they'd reduced inventory quite a bit but I imagine they're shifting things around between stores and such.
I would often drop into that store, and pretty much every time I did, the salespersons outnumbered the customers by a large margin. I always wondered why it bothered staying open. This was about five years ago. My earliest musical instrument purchases were at the White Plains NY Sam Ash store, another longstanding store that's still around ...

That is not the Sam Ash store I went to in the late 90’s. In the 80’s I bought my Rhodes Chroma from Sam Ash, site unseen, and they were the only store listed in the back of Keyboard Magazine that had one in stock. Did a bank transfer and waited a week for it to arrive at my workplace by truck. Too heavy for UPS at the time.
