Bayview's first clubhouse was a two-story tin shanty built atop a floored-over boat well at the foot of what was then known as Motor Boat Lane, adjacent to Water Works Park. Bayview moved to its present clubhouse and harbor, at the foot of Clairpointe, in 1929–30. Bayview Yacht Club's Port Huron to Mackinac Race has sailed annually since 1925.
The sections from both cities joined in Grand Rapids and proceeded north to Baldwin, Traverse City, Petoskey and Bay View. Normally, all trains on this division of track ended at Petoskey, however, the Resort Special was the last remaining passenger train to use the segment from Petoskey to Bay View. [4]
The Bay View, Little Traverse and Mackinaw Railroad was sold to the Grand Rapids and Indiana on January 17, 1888. [2] The Grand Rapids and Indiana extended the line, now called the Harbor Springs branch , a further 0.5 miles (0.80 km) north in 1901; this extension was abandoned between 1904 and 1913.
Construction began in 1881 from Bay View, also the starting point of the Bay View, Little Traverse and Mackinaw Railroad. The line, 34.11 miles (54.89 km) in length, opened on July 3, 1882. [ 3 ] The company was consolidated with the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad on October 1, 1884.
