The current building was built in 1926, [3] [4] and, as Baton Rouge High School, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The campus underwent a two-year renovation and expansion starting in 2010, resulting in the addition of two new wings to the main building.
Mentorship Academy opened in 2011 after the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved its charter in 2010. [3] In March 2017, the school's charter was renewed through 2023. [ 3 ]
Broadmoor High School was founded in 1960 and resides on a 30-acre campus centrally located in the historic Broadmoor Neighborhood [2] of south Baton Rouge. BHS offers an array of traditional and honors level courses, including several AP courses and College Dual Enrollment opportunities with Baton Rouge area colleges (BRCC, SU, LSU) for eligible upperclassmen in good academic standing.
The school began with students from kindergarten to sixth grade in 1981, adding grades 7–12 in 1983. PBS is now divided into three administrative units: Parkview Baptist Elementary School (K-4), Parkview Baptist Middle School (5-8), and Parkview Baptist High School (9-12). Grade 5 was moved to be part of the middle school in fall 2008.
In October 2012 plans were announced to merge Walker High School and L. B. Landry High School into the new Landry Building and the campus would take the name of Walker High. The earliest school was called the Southern University Model Training School. In the early 1930s the name was changed to Southern University Demonstration School.
