The sad reality is that '6' is assumed to be a left hand key because the keyboard looks so diagonal that it seems wrong to reach that far--WHEN NON-touch typists look at it. I (and everyone else that was taught to touch type) were taught to use the right index finger for '6'. Touch typists are used to the diagonal layout.
