The site includes farm equipment, implements and tools, a period farmhouse, a recreated train depot and Uintah Railway exhibit with railroad cars, an engine and caboose, and historic horse-drawn road-building equipment. Crawford, was a Civil War veteran and President of the Grand Junction Town Company. He was accompanied by William McGinley, J. Clayton Nichols, and four unidentified companions.

Grand Junction is 247 miles (398 km) west-southwest of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver.The city has a council–manager form of government.
