Rock Island. Keeper's dwelling and light tower, built in 1858 of native limestone on a bluff 137 feet above water level at the tip of the Door Peninsula. Served until 1988. An earlier lighthouse on the site, built 1836-7, was the first lighthouse on Lake Michigan and first in Wisconsin.
