William Franklin Graham Jr. (/ ˈ ɡ r eɪ ə m /; November 7, 1918 – February 21, 2018) was an American evangelist, ordained Southern Baptist minister, and civil rights advocate, [1] [2] whose broadcasts and world tours featuring live sermons became well known in the mid- to late 20th century.
The name "Palm Sunday" is a misnomer; the "verba" or "dwarfed spruce" is used instead. According to tradition, on the Saturday before Palm Sunday the Lithuanians take special care in choosing and cutting well-formed branches, which the women-folk decorate with flowers. The flowers are meticulously tied onto the branches, making the "Verba".
Palm Sunday is the last week of Lent before Easter Sunday. It is the first day of Holy Week , the most sacred seven days of the Catholic calendar. Many Protestant religions also honor Palm Sunday.
In 1994, the Liberty Baptist Fellowship had 100 churches, including the 21,000 member Thomas Road church, which was also affiliated with the Baptist Bible Fellowship International. In 1996, the Thomas Road church joined the newly formed Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia, thereby aligning itself with 3 Baptist bodies.
Until 2004, the church was the location for a nationally syndicated religious broadcast known as The Old-Time Gospel Hour. This program now airs only locally in Lynchburg. Selected sermons from the pulpit of the Thomas Road Baptist Church are now featured nationally on a syndicated program from Liberty University known as Live from Liberty. [2]

The Fellowship was founded during a meeting at Fort Worth in 1950 by a group of 100 pastors of the World Baptist Fellowship who disagreed with the authoritative direction of the leader. [1] That same year, the Baptist Bible College (now Mission University) and the organization's headquarters were established in Springfield, Missouri.
