East Harbor State Park is a public recreation area located eight miles (13 km) northwest of Sandusky, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. The state park includes beach, campground, marina, and wetland wildlife preserve areas. The park offers swimming, boating and fishing, ten miles (16 km) of multi-use trails, picnicking, hunting, and disc golf. [2]

The park covers the bush-clad hills between Eastbourne and Wainuiomata, from near sea level to up to 373 metres (1,224 ft) (Lowry).Several tracks, some along ridges and one into the valley of Butterfly Creek, connect the entrances on the Wellington Harbour side and the entrances on the Wainuiomata side.
Until the latter half of the nineteenth century, the East Harbor was a natural embayment deep enough to shelter Provincetown's fishing fleet during the winter, and was connected to Cape Cod Bay through a 1,000-foot-wide (300 m) inlet. [3] This effectively isolated neighboring Provincetown from Truro and other towns on Cape Cod. [1]
