Black Rock Mountain State Park was established in 1952 and originally consisted of 1,000 acres (400 ha). Before the park was established, Rabun County native John V. Arrendale began assembling the area that would later become the park, making his first 70-acre (280,000 m 2 ) purchase in 1938.
The highest altitudes in all three of these west Georgia counties can be found along the range. [1] The Pine Mountain Range is part of a larger geological feature known as the Pine Mountain terrane, [2] which extends into eastern Alabama. The ridge in Georgia exceeds 1,100 feet (340 m) in elevation for a distance of about 20 miles (32 km).
F.D. Roosevelt State Park is a 9,049 acres (36.62 km 2) Georgia state park located near Pine Mountain and Warm Springs. The park is named for former U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who sought a treatment for his paralytic illness in nearby Warm Springs at the Little White House. The park is located along the Pine Mountain Range.
Pine Mountain is located in southeastern Bartow County. [2] I-75 runs to the west of the mountain, while Lake Allatoona is located to the east. [4] The summit, located inside Cartersville's city limits, is mostly treeless and contains several rock outcrops. [4] [5] Lake Allatoona, Cartersville, Plant Bowen and Atlanta are visible from the summit.
The summit falls within Cherokee County, although the majority of the mountain range trails into Bartow County including other peaks of Little Pine Log Mountain, Bear Mountain and Hanging Mountain. Pine Log and these other summits within its range are the last mountains over 2,000 feet (600 m) in the Appalachians of north Georgia .
Pine Mountain is located at approximately 33°59'21.13" up North, 84°38'43.00" West. The small "mountain" has an approximate elevation of 1292 feet or 394 meters above sea level. Contrary to the implications of its name, Pine Mountain is plentiful with various deciduous trees.
