The Bode plotter is an electronic instrument resembling an oscilloscope, which produces a Bode diagram, or a graph, of a circuit's voltage gain or phase shift plotted against frequency in a feedback control system or a filter. An example of this is shown in Figure 10.
Bode was one of the great engineering philosophers of his era. [3] Long respected in academic circles worldwide, [4] [5] he is also widely known to modern engineering students mainly for developing the asymptotic magnitude and phase plot that bears his name, the Bode plot.
Phase margin and gain margin are two measures of stability for a feedback control system. They indicate how much the gain or the phase of the system can vary before it becomes unstable. Phase margin is the difference (expressed as a positive number) between 180° and the phase shift where the magnitude of the loop transfer function is 0 dB.
The usage of fractional elements for description of ideal Bode's control loop is one of the most promising applications of fractional calculus in the process control field. [3] Bode's ideal control loop frequency response has the fractional integrator shape and provides the iso-damping property around the gain crossover frequency.
Bode's sensitivity integral, discovered by Hendrik Wade Bode, is a formula that quantifies some of the limitations in feedback control of linear parameter invariant systems. Let L be the loop transfer function and S be the sensitivity function. In the diagram, P is a dynamical process that has a transfer function P(s).

Example of a system context diagram. [1] A system context diagram in engineering is a diagram that defines the boundary between the system, or part of a system, and its environment, showing the entities that interact with it. [2] This diagram is a high level view of a system. It is similar to a block diagram.
