Ready-to-wear nine-yard sari is the perfect solution for such problems. Just wear it like a salwar, put the pallu over the shoulder, and you are dressed in few minutes. A sari (sometimes also saree [1] or sadi) [note 1] is a drape (cloth) [2] and a women's garment in the Indian subcontinent. [3] It consists of an un-stitched stretch of woven fabric arranged over the body as a dress, with one end attached to the waist, while the other end rests over one shoulder as a stole, [4] [5] sometimes baring a part of the midriff.
To wear one, unlike a sari, one does not have to form pleats but may simply tuck and drape. Like that of a traditional sari, the lehenga-style sari is worn over a petticoat (inskirt; pavadai or langa in the south, and shaya in eastern India, Lehenga in western India), along with a blouse called the choli, which is the upper garment.
Luanchari (Hindi: लुआंचणी) is a full-dress garment. The luanchari is made up of two parts. The upper part is called choli, and is made of the same fabric as of the lehanga, but it is not uncommon to find the two pieces of the garment in different colours. The choli is stitched to the lehanga, to make a one-piece luanchari.
Red is considered to be the most auspicious color among Hindus. While the sari is preferred as the bridal dress in South India, West, East India, traditional wear such as the mekhela sador is preferred in North-east India and brides of the North of India prefer Lehenga, Gagra Choli and Odhni as bridal dresses.
Iyers and Iyengars wear Madisars differently. Iyers drape the Pallu (the layer of sari which comes over one's shoulder) over the right shoulder while Iyengars wear it over the left shoulder. Conventionally, the first Madisar a woman wears is maroon or red in colour, nowadays Madisar is being worn in other colours according to people's wishes.
