Strong verbs are less common in Dutch, but they include many of the most common verbs. They form their past tenses by changing the vowel of the stem ( ablaut ). For strong verbs one needs to learn three or four principal parts : the infinitive, the past (singular), optionally the past plural, and the past participle.
