The following day, Charlie Brown checks his mailbox for a valentine from the Little Red-Haired Girl. Instead, he is met with a kiss from Snoopy, hiding in the mailbox. Violet presents Charlie Brown with a used valentine, having erased her name from it. Schroeder reprimands Violet, Lucy, Sally, and the others for their thoughtlessness.
Linus explains that leukemia is not contagious, but Lucy refuses to change her ignorant attitude towards Janice's condition. She demands that Linus take back the glass of milk he handed her earlier, fearing that he might be transmitting the illness. Linus gets back at Lucy by refusing to accept, so as not to get her "crabbiness".

Before camp, Rerun Van Pelt discovers a jar of marbles once owned by his grandfather and decides to bring them to camp to learn the game.
Lucy tries various attempts to make Linus let go of his blanket, such as locking it in the closet for the day, turning it into a kite and letting go of the string, causing it to fly away and get lost before it is eventually found, and burying it outside, but all the attempts fail, and Linus is still obsessed with it.
