The Shining Sea Bikeway is a rail trail on Cape Cod in Falmouth, Massachusetts, United States. The path runs for 10.7 miles (17.2 km) [ 1 ] from the Steamship Authority ferry terminal in Woods Hole to North Falmouth .
The Shining Sea Bikeway passes close to the center of West Falmouth Village, providing access to the beautiful Great Sippewissett Marsh to the south and the historic 1775 Bourne Farm and cranberry bogs to the north. Chapoquoit Beach, a Falmouth public beach, is also close to the center of West Falmouth Village. [5]

The north end of the Shining Sea Bikeway is located in North Falmouth at the former site of the North Falmouth Railroad Station. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.6 square miles (17.1 km 2), of which 3.9 square miles (10.1 km 2) is land, and 2.7 square miles (7.0 km 2) (40.98%) is water. West Falmouth is located in the west-central part of the town of Falmouth at (41.599628, -70.637812). [7] It is bordered to the north by North Falmouth, to the east by Massachusetts Route 28, to the south by Little Sippewisset Marsh, and to the west by Buzzards Bay.
The Shining Sea Bikeway crosses the property on a paved former railroad bed. Of interest is an old cattle tunnel which was for herding livestock under the former railroad tracks. The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, [1] and included in the West Falmouth Village Historic District in 1998. [4]

Also, as of a June 25, 2009, capecodonline.com article, the company plans to re-extend passenger railroad service to the town, complete with dinner and tourist trains, though this will also be only to North Falmouth, due to the fact that the other 8 miles (13 km) of railroad track had been replaced with the current Shining Sea Bikeway.
