The Hodgeman County Courthouse, at 500 Main St. in Jetmore, Kansas, was built in 1929. It was designed and built by Routledge & Hertz of Hutchinson, Kansas in an "eclectic interpretation" of Second Renaissance Revival style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. [1] [2]
Hodgeman County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat and most populous city is Jetmore. [3] As of the 2020 census, the county population was 1,723. [1] It was named for Amos Hodgman, a member of the 7th Regiment Kansas Volunteer Cavalry.
Jetmore was originally called Buckner, and was laid out under the latter name in 1879. [4] [5] The name was changed to Jetmore in 1880 in honor of Col. Abraham Buckles Jetmore. [6] [7] A lawyer from Topeka, Abraham Jetmore was instrumental in securing a railroad line through the city and in arranging for it to become the county seat. [8]

Beckwith was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on 22 January 1929, to Baptist parents Elza Dozier Beckwith (1894–1940) and Clara Eugenia Beckwith (née Rey; 1895–1973).He was an all-state football player for his high school team.
