NGC 2207 is in the process of colliding and merging with IC 2163. But unlike the Antennae or the Mice Galaxies, they are still two separate spiral galaxies. They are only in the first step of colliding and merging, with NGC 2207 being in the process of tidally stripping IC 2163. Soon they will collide, probably looking a bit more like the Mice ...
NGC 7496 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Grus. It is located at a distance of about 60 million light-years from Earth, which, given its apparent dimensions, means that it is 75,000 light years across. It was discovered by John Herschel on September 5, 1834. [3]
NGC 4567 and NGC 4568 (nicknamed the Butterfly Galaxies [4] or Siamese Twins [NB 1] [5]) are a set of unbarred spiral galaxies about 60 million light-years away [1] in the constellation Virgo. They were both discovered by William Herschel in 1784. They are part of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies.
In response, new research determined [3] NGC 4622's spiral arm sense with a method independent of the previous work. The Fourier component method reveals two new weak arms in the inner disk winding opposite the outer strong clockwise pair. Thus the galaxy must have a pair of arms winding in the opposite direction from most galaxies.
NGC 4651 imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope Spiral galaxy NGC 4651. Credit: ESA / Hubble Space Telescope & NASA, D. Leonard NGC 4651 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Coma Berenices that can be seen with amateur telescopes, at a distance not well determined that ranges from 35 million light years [2] to 72 million light years. [3]
An example of a spiral galaxy (Pinwheel Galaxy). This category contains galaxies in the S (de Vaucouleurs for indeterminate) category or any galaxy where it is indeterminate whether the galaxy is SA, SB or SAB in its spiral nature. SA, S (Hubble) galaxies should be categorized under Category:Unbarred spiral galaxies
The New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (abbreviated NGC) is an astronomical catalogue of deep-sky objects compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888. The NGC contains 7,840 objects, including galaxies , star clusters and emission nebulae .
NGC 4565 is a giant spiral galaxy more luminous than the Andromeda Galaxy. [6] Much speculation exists in literature as to the nature of the central bulge. In the absence of clear-cut dynamical data on the motions of stars in the bulge, the photometric data alone cannot adjudge among various options put forth.
