The Savannah Historic District is a large urban U.S. historic district that roughly corresponds to the city limits of Savannah, Georgia, prior to the American Civil War.The area was declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1966, [1] and is one of the largest districts of its kind in the United States. Savannah is located on the north side of U.S. Route 380 in an unincorporated area of Denton County, 12 miles (19 km) east of Denton and 15 miles (24 km) west of McKinney. It is bordered to the south by land within the town of Little Elm and east within the city of Prosper .
The Savannah metropolitan area is located in the Coastal Georgia region, and is its most populous urban area. The three counties comprising the metropolitan area make up a total area of 1,569 square miles (4,060 km 2), roughly the size of the U.S. state of Rhode Island at 1,545 square miles (4,000 km 2).
Savannah City Hall is the seat of government for the city of Savannah, Georgia, United States. Designed by architect Hyman Witcover, the building was built between 1904 and 1905 and opened the following year. It is a contributing property to the Savannah Historic District.
