The drawing: This is the floor plan of the Kallesvara temple famous for its pioneering innovations that became the Vesara-style of Hindu temple architecture. This hybrid style integrates elements of the Dravidian temple architecture with Nagara temple architecture. The temple was completed between 1000–1025 CE, per broad scholarly consensus.

The temple architecture shows many of the key architectural elements of Hindu Nagara style temple. The temple consists of an entrance porch, an open hall or mandapa and it faces the east. The roof of the mandapa is supported by 16 columns with 12 forming a square, remaining flanking the north and south sides.
The north India Nagara style of temple designs often deploy fractal-theme, where smaller parts of the temple are themselves images or geometric re-arrangement of the large temple, a concept that later inspired French and Russian architecture such as the matryoshka principle.
The Vesara style, a synthesis of Nagara and Dravidian, is seen in Karnataka and most commonly in Hoysala and later Chalukya temples. In the vesara style, the tower moves towards a lower conical shape, with highly ornate carving. The Dravidian style is prevalent in southern India, in which the equivalent of the shikhara is the vimana.
The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and is one of the oldest existing temples in the state. It is believed to have been built around 650 CE in Nagara style and has all the main features of the pre-10th century Kalinga Architecture style temples. The temple is one among the Parashurameshvara group of temples.
