An unsigned branch, also a part of LRN 127 would run along the northeast shore, connecting at US 395 just south of Lone Pine. [6] In 1964, all of the state routes were renumbered. [1] Whitney Portal is the gateway to Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States; it is the trailhead for the Mount Whitney Trail.
