Simon A. Dixon (October 12, 1728 – April, 1781) was the founder and prominent member of the community of Snow Camp, North Carolina. He was also one of the founding members of the Cane Creek Friends Meeting , the first Quaker community in the Piedmont (United States) region of North Carolina .

Jonathan Lindley returned from North Carolina in 1811 with around twenty families. At least eleven of these families were "free colored," descendants of Africans and Lumbee, a Native American tribe in southeastern North Carolina. (The Lumbee often married African Americans and thus came to be classified as "colored" by the state.)

The Cane River is a 38.3-mile (61.6 km) river in Yancey County, North Carolina. It originates from the confluence of Beech Nursery Creek, off the western slope of Mount Mitchell , and Blue Sea Creek, off the northeastern slope of Blackstock Knob, in the Black Mountains .
