Itō (伊東市, Itō-shi) is a city located on the eastern shore of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 August 2023 [update] , the city had an estimated population of 63,343 [ 1 ] and a population density of 510 persons per km 2 .
The family's old lands were restored in 1587, following Toyotomi Hideyoshi's invasion of Kyushu and defeat of the Shimazu clan. [4] By the Edo period, the Itō retained their holdings, which came to be known as the Obi Domain. Count Itō Sukeyuki, the Meiji era admiral, was a descendant of this family.
