Lexington is a city in and the county seat of Holmes County, Mississippi, United States.The county was organized in 1833 and the city in 1836. The population was 1,731 at the 2010 census, [2] down from 2,025 at the 2000 census.
Mississippi Highway 17 follows US 51 through Pickens, but leaves the highway south of town to lead southeast 13 miles (21 km) to Camden, and splits from US 51 north of Pickens to lead north 18 miles (29 km) to Lexington, the Holmes County seat. Holmes County State Park is a public recreation area in the U.S. state of Mississippi located off U.S. Route 51, six miles (9.7 km) southwest of Durant. The state park features two lakes, 45-acre (18 ha) English Lake and 14-acre (5.7 ha) Odum Lake.
