The Praxis II School Counseling specialty exam is used by some states as a licensure requirement to practice professional school counseling. It replaced the National Teacher Examination (NTE), also administered by ETS.
A school counselor is a certified/licensed professional that provides academic, career, college readiness, and social-emotional support for all students. There are school counselor positions within each level of schooling (elementary, middle, high, and college).
The school was named in honor of John E. Dwyer, an Elizabeth educator for many years who served as a teacher and guidance counselor, as well as vice principal, principal and as Superintendent of Schools. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 2013.

[ 5 ] As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising eight schools, had an enrollment of 5,649 students and 438.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.9:1.
The school was the 46th-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 328 schools statewide according to U.S. News & World Report. [4] [5]The school was the 204th-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 339 schools statewide in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2014 cover story on the state's "Top Public High Schools", using a new ranking methodology. PARCC started in Ohio, New York, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island during the 2014-2015 schoolyear. The PARCC is done electronically and it can be done on paper if the school requests. Since PARCC came to New Jersey in 2015, the NJ ASK and HSPA is being phased out in many schools across the state.
