The Santa Ana Hospital was run by the Charity of Lima. [8] In 1902, because its facilities were deteriorating, so the construction of a modern hospital was decided as its replacement, to be built on land owned by the organisation located on Alfonso Ugarte Avenue, near Plaza Dos de Mayo, in the historic centre of Lima. On June 19, 1965, the North General Hospital was renamed Dr. Jose R. Reyes Memorial Hospital in honor of Jose Reyes y Reyes for his service as the Director of the hospital from March 16, 1948, up to his death in 1964. At present, it is known as Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center by virtue of Executive Order No. 851 s.1982. [1]
When said hospital was closed in 1841, the maternity hospital was moved to the Santa Ana Hospital, and years later, to the San Ildefonso School premises, where it remained until 1875, when it was relocated to the San Andrés Hospital. In 1877 it returned to work at the Santa Ana Hospital, until the closure of this hospital in 1925. [4]
