Greyhound Pets of America (GPA) was established in 1987 for the purpose of finding homes for ex-racing greyhounds and educating the public on the suitability and availability of Greyhounds as pets, and is the largest non-profit greyhound adoption group. [5] GPA has adopted out over 80,000 Greyhounds. [6]

Greyhound Racing Ireland (Irish: Rásaíocht Con Éireann, [1] formerly Irish: Bord na gCon) is an Irish semi-state body charged with regulating and promoting Greyhound racing in Ireland. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The organisation has been active in developing the sport in Ireland since its founding on 11 July 1958.
It is a major competition inaugurated in 1943 and is an integral part of the Irish greyhound racing calendar. [ 2 ] The event is the Irish equivalent of the Puppy Derby held in the UK at Wimbledon Stadium .

The 1974 Irish Greyhound Derby took place during June and July with the final being held at Shelbourne Park in Dublin on 27 July 1974. [ 1 ] The winner Lively Band won £10,000 and was trained by Jack Murphy, owned by Cyril Scotland and bred by Denis Clancy. [ 2 ]
