Funk carioca (Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈfɐ̃k(i) kɐɾiˈɔkɐ,-kaɾ-]), also known as favela funk, in other parts of the world as baile funk and Brazilian funk, or even simply funk, is a Brazilian hip hop-influenced music genre from Rio de Janeiro, taking influences from musical styles such as Miami bass and freestyle.
Funk automotivo is a direct evolution of funk mandelão (descendant of funk carioca), but it incorporates influences from other genres such as EDM (Electronic Dance Music). Its relevance has grown not only in Brazil but also internationally. Furthermore, the genre has become a means of expression for young people from the outskirts and parties.
