Ian Gordon Murray CBE (born 18 June 1946), [1] is a successful and influential South African-British [2] former (Formula One) race-car designer, famous firstly as lead designer for both the Brabham and McLaren Formula 1 racing teams, during 1969–1986 and 1987–1991 respectively; and then as designer of high-end, high-performance roadgoing sports cars, starting with the 1992 McLaren F1.
