H1 Unlimited is an American unlimited hydroplane racing league that is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association (APBA). Until 2009, the series was known as ABRA Unlimited Hydroplane , in turn renamed from APBA Unlimited Hydroplane in 2004.
It is now run as part of the H1 Unlimited season. [1] First run in 1904, it is the oldest trophy in motorsports. [2] Starting in 1904, the Gold Cup consist of three heats, and starting in 1918 the heat distance was 30 statute miles. [3] In 1963 the number of heats was increased to four, but the total distance was reduced to 60 statute miles. [4]
