The Brown Line was first conceived by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under the Phase IV of Delhi Metro's future expansion and development in July 2016. As per the plan, six new lines covering a length of about 104 km (65 mi) have been planned to be added to the metro network, out of which the Brown Line will connect Lajpat Nagar with Saket, at a length of 7.96 km (4.95 mi).
