Carl Raymond Stevens [2] (September 5, 1935 – May 3, 1996), better known as Ray "the Crippler" Stevens or Ray "Blond Bomber" Stevens, was an American professional wrestler. Stevens was a wrestling superstar since the early years of the television era until his retirement during the early 1990s.

The American Wrestling Alliance United States Championship was created in November 1960 with Ray Stevens declared the inaugural champion. In 1968, it was renamed the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship after Big Time Wrestling joined the National Wrestling Alliance. The championship was retired in 1981 when the promotion folded.
