Zaza–Gorani is a Kurdic linguistic subgroup of Northwestern Iranian languages. They are usually classified as a non- Kurdish branch of the Northwestern Iranian languages [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] but most of their speakers consider themselves ethnic Kurds .
Before, the Kurdish language was banned for long periods of time in Turkey. [3] In 2011, MAU was the first university to have a Kurdish language and literature department. [4] By 2014, about 900 students have graduated from the Kurdish language department. [4] The university has also had a professor for the Zaza language since 2020. [5]
