The euglobulin lysis time (ELT) is a test that measures overall fibrinolysis. The test is performed by mixing citrated platelet-poor plasma with acid in a glass test tube. This acidification causes the precipitation of certain clotting factors in a complex called the euglobulin fraction .
A mixing test is generally in the initial workup of a prolonged aPTT. In a mixing test, patient plasma is mixed with normal pooled plasma and the clotting is reassessed. If a clotting inhibitor such as a lupus anticoagulant is present, the inhibitor will interact with the normal pooled plasma and the clotting time will generally remain abnormal.
The plaque reduction neutralization test is used to quantify the titer of neutralizing antibody for a virus.
