Stanley Steemer was founded by Jack Bates in Columbus, Ohio in 1947 as the Jack Bates Carpet Cleaning Company. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] In 1970, Jack's son Wesley graduated from Wittenberg University and went to work with his father.
In 1902 they formed the Stanley Motor Carriage Company which operated from 1902 to 1924. The cars made by the company were colloquially called Stanley Steamers, although several different models were produced.
