"Wings of a Dove' is a country song written by Bob Ferguson in 1958. It was popularized when it was recorded by Ferlin Husky in 1960. His recording topped the country charts for 10 nonconsecutive weeks. [1] It was Ferlin Husky's third and final number 1 on the country chart, spending nine months on it.
Ferguson is best known for writing the bestselling songs "On the Wings of a Dove" and "The Carroll County Accident". [1] The "Carroll County Accident" won the Country Music Association Song of the Year in 1969. In 1983 "Wings of a Dove" was featured in the movie Tender Mercies starring Robert Duvall.
The line "If I had the wings of a snow-white dove" is likely a reference to the nearly identical opening line of Bob Ferguson's country/gospel song "Wings of a Dove", [29] famously sung on camera by Robert Duvall in his Academy Award-winning performance in the 1983 film Tender Mercies.

Sue Anne asks whether Mac remembers a song about a dove he sang to her when she was a baby. He claims he does not, but after she leaves, he sings to himself the hymn "On the Wings of a Dove," which refers to a dove from the Lord saving Noah, and to the Holy Spirit descending in the form of a dove at Jesus' baptism.
