Snow River Mountain Resort is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in Wakefield Township, Gogebic County. Indianhead Mountain is in an area called "Big Snow Country", so named because of the annual 200-inch (5.1 m) average snowfall, courtesy of the lake effect [ 1 ] from Lake Superior .
Ascent is not advised while snow persists on the route. The first ski runs date as far back as 1926, with the opening of the ski lodge in 1929. [2] Rope tows were installed in 1942 and the mountain was the second in Canada to install a chairlift in 1948 (Red Mountain Resort was the first, in 1947), with a vertical drop of 1,400 feet (425 m). [3]
A new 17,800-square-foot (1,650 m 2) lodge was constructed in 2001, replacing the old lodge and maintenance buildings. Additionally in 2001 the first magic carpet was added. A second magic carpet replaced the handle tow in 2003. The entirety of Snow Valley Ski Club's terrain can be accessed by the high-speed pulse quad chairlift, installed in 2008.

The main lodge is at the base of the ski runs and is located in a river valley, at the upper end of a steep road. The upper lift stations are at the top of the river valley, in relatively flat prairie farmland. Canyon Ski Resort was one of the first Canadian ski hills to use artificial snow-making equipment in the 1960s.

The Sunshine Mountain Lodge, an 84-room hotel is located in the "village" at tree line 7,200 feet (2,200 m) above sea level. It is the only ski-in/ski-out lodge in Banff-Lake Louise. Guests can purchase a Marmot Card to receive discounts on lift tickets.
