Methuen High School first opened in 1975. The school was originally designed with the open classroom theory. Since then, a $100 million renovation [3] has been conducted and all classrooms now have walls. Also due in part to the renovation, students now receive iPads which they keep for the entire year. The school was founded in 1958. The academy, located at 209 Lawrence St, is situated on a 22-acre campus formerly known as the Edward F. Searles Estate. In 2008, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary. In October 2016, the estate was opened up for public tours.
