The hotel is said to have been constructed at Prince Chichibu's suggestion in 1928 - while he was on a skiing trip, he suggested that the city needed a western-style hotel. The Grand Hotel first opened its doors in 1934 and was at the time of its construction the tallest building in the city. [ 1 ]
The Sapporo Municipal Bus System was started in 1930. In 1937, Sapporo was chosen as the site of the 1940 Winter Olympics, but due to the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, this was cancelled the next year. Maruyama Town was integrated as a part of Chūō-ku in 1940, and the Okadama Airport was constructed in 1942.
From 2000, an increasing number of high-rise buildings were built. The tallest building in Sapporo is the 175 m (574 ft) ONE Sapporo Station Tower, completed in 2023. The second tallest building is the 173 m (568 ft) Sapporo JR Tower , which was formerly the tallest building between 2003 and 2023.

Sapporo Clock Tower (札幌時計台, Sapporo Tokeidai) is a wooden structure and tourist attraction located at North 1 West 2, Chūō-ku, Sapporo, the largest city on the island of Hokkaidō, Japan. As of 2021, this tower is the oldest clock tower in Japan.
The Sapporo Satoland was established in 1995. Facilities have been run by the Sato Mirai Project Group since April 1, 2006. [1] After the expansion to the west side in 2004, the total area of the Satoland was extended to about 74 ha. [2]
The Sapporo Ainu Culture Promotion Center (札幌市アイヌ文化交流センター, Sapporo-shi Ainu Bunka Kōryū Sentā), also known as Sapporo Pirka Kotan (サッポロピㇼカコタン) [2] or "Beautiful Village", [1] opened in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, in 2003. [1]
