Datu Daya was a legendary lord of Kandaya ("Daya's (kingdom)"), the place that is now known as Daanbantayan, Cebu, in the Philippines. [1] According to oral tradition, Datu Daya was the ruler of the first settlers in northern Cebu. The new settlers cleared forests and in a few years were able to establish a progressive community.
Daanbantayan, officially the Municipality of Daanbantayan (Cebuano: Lungsod sa Daanbantayan; Tagalog: Bayan ng Daanbantayan), is a municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 93,502 people.
The district consists of the northern city of Bogo and adjacent municipalities of Bantayan, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Medellin, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Tabogon and Tabuelan. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Janice Z. Salimbangon of the National Unity Party (NUP) and One Cebu (1-Cebu). [4]
Medellin was formerly part of Daanbantayan. As a town, it started with only 3 barangays, namely; Kawit and Buenavista on the west coast, and Tindog on the east coast. Kawit, being the biggest and most progressive barangay at that time, became the first seat of government. Due to its deep shore water, the area was prone to pirates.
